Hi Julia,

I think you raised an interesting topic.
In a way, I agree with you. Is bombing Afganistan still relevant? When the bombing campaign started, I was really opposed to it. However, I realize that there is some kind of benefit. It helped the Northern Alliance overthrow the Taliban regime, which was fundamental. Other than that, I don't see any positive effects of this campaign right now. And I am sure that Bin Laden left Afganistan a while ago.

What is scary to me is how the Bush administration is interacting with other countries. I read the European press, and I find really interesting the way Bush and his administration are viewed. He is highly critized on the way he handles problems unilateraly. One example happened recently. There was a meeting in Spain last week, where all the European Ministers of Foreign affairs gathered. They mostly talk about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and how the US make decisions unilateraly. It often reffers to his comment " you are with or against us". I don't think it is that simple, and it shows a lack compromise and dialogue.
Going back to Middle east, I know it is very complicated, but when Bush implies that Palestinians are the bad guys because they act as terrorists... I think Israel is not an angel either. Over winter break, the Israeli government gave order to destroy houses randomly. In the middle of the day, these chars came and within a few hours, people were homeless... What kind of answer is that? To me, it is not really rational.
Going back to the US foreign relations, I think the message sent on Sept 11th has not been understood. I am not trying to justify the horrible terrorists acts. Really, I don't, but, in a way these acts aimed at showing that the US need to take into consideration other people, instead of acting as an world hegemon. Right now, the US dipolmacy is a little controversial, to me.
