Subject: Does Latin America really want peace?

I first would like to say that I really don't understand why the FARC would kidnap a Senator during peace negotiations? If the FARC really wants peace for the rural people of Columbia, then they can't commit actions that would violate peace talks. I don't blame the Columbian government for ceasing the peace talks.

Secondly I would like to comment on the situation currently happenning in Isreal. For years there has been a conflict on land ownership. And what is ironic about the whole situation is that there is constant conflict going on in a land that is suppose to be holy. As pointed out by the professor, I agree that it seems as if Bush Jr. doesn't really care about the Middle East. I feel the reason for this is because his father tried to correct the problem and did not find succees. Correct me if I'm wrong, but, George Bush senior was somewhat embarrassed how everything went down during his administration. So why would his son focus on peace in the Middle East?

I am however dissappointed that Clinton let his manhood get the best of him. I really wish that he could have brought peace to the Middle East and corrected some of the turmoil that currently exist. However I do have to give him credit for trying. But the funny thing is, why should we have to care about the problems in the Middle East? Why can't we focus on issues that we currently face in America like racism?

I recognize that we do have invested interest in both Columbia and the MIddle East. But I feel our motivation for making change is not based on the betterment of man, but the profitability of conquering their nation.
