Straedus's skeletal face darkened slightly as he remembered the reason why he always forced himself into optimism, remembered the bright, flaring pain as the car struck his side, as his fragile boy-bones shattered under the weight of the car. He remembered the months, the years of rehab, the constant stretching, the aching, the pain and rage that had matured the young boy many years.

And now, after pulling through all of the torment, the wounds had come back to haunt him. His hip had never fully recovered from the accident, despite all the braces and screws and plates. The joints had been steadily deteriorating, till there times when putting the slightest amount of weight on the injured leg would send a wave of black pain up his spine, the agony of it driving his mind deep into unconsciousness till the pain had faded.
