And you need to carry this comment to tactical implementation. To have even a small chance of retaining building k5, the Germans MUST use as many of their other building assets to make the Russian effort as slow and difficult as possible.

So, the three critical (related) issues:

1) The i7 force needs to do three things in rough priority order: keep Russian 628s out of h3, keep Russian 628s from crossing the I road, and remove the j2 MMG as a contributing factor.

2) The f5 building MUST hold for as long as possible. This usually means holding everyone in a "reverse slope" type of defense in hex f6 ... don't let the Russians get a big attack on any of these squads from across the street.

3) the m7 building forces need to keep the L road free of Russian squads and preserve themselves for a potential counterattack on this flank.

And after this, what do the k5 forces do? Mostly try to survive as long as possible. Pay attention to where you deploy your LMGs, because if they are forward you WILL lose their use when those forward squads break and rout to the leader. This force's primary role is to do its best to slow the guard's assault on building f5. You won't be able to stop it, but the more delay and the more broken Russian squads, the better off the entire German position. Oh, the final BTW, in this building keep the 8-0 leader away from any/all good order squads, since stacking WILL increase the probability that your squad will break (because of the chance of the leader breaking first).

And one final note. Sometimes it is possible to get a better leader into building k5. If you can do this, go for it (even an 8-1 will make a big difference)! And if you do this, pull the 8-0 out as well ... he'll be much more effective trying to rally broken squads back in the relative safety of hex L7!

PS. Some of the better #1 variants (like Aachen Redoubt) change all of these tactical issues ... enjoy them for these differences! :-)
