Good points, Alan.

The main issue in "Gimme that Map" is there's only two halftracks and a victory requirement of getting four squads and four vehicles off the board. I've played the scenario once. My tactic was to unload the truck riders before passing by enemy fire and using the halftrack riders for covering fire.

There was a particularly tenacious nest of Russians in a wood house that refused to break as Germans were firing at it and running by trying to get off the board. At that time one of the leaders directing fire in the HT broke. The last turn had the situation described previously. The Squad Leader rule (47.9) states that a halftrack with a broken unit cannot advance towards enemy units. Since there's no mention of CE status, I presume it doesn't matter. Note also that while infantry fire has no effect on a halftrack, broken squads retain the desparation morale status while bullets are rattling against the hull of their vehicle.

Next time, I might try staying on the trucks and braving the Russian fire but it sounds risky. Since the terrain in the scenario is urban, wooded or hilly, one wrecked truck could create quite a traffic jam. Trucks are terrible off-road vehicles.
