Subject: On about the Olympic Flame again...

Wednesday June 14th was the day the Olympic Flame came to Brisbane. The schedule the torch relay was running to meant that the convoy took all afternoon, running a convoluted route through the inner Western Suburbs, to travel the six or seven kilometres between the lunchtime Community Celebration venue of the Mt Coot-Tha Botanic Gardens and the evening venue of the City Botanic Gardens.

Well, I don't think anywhere else has had the Flame stay in town for a whole day, as Canberra has on Wednesday September 6th -- did anyone attend an event? ;)

Notice I got the dates right this time... hehehe

The funniest moment of the night was when Perkins went to light the Community Cauldron where the Flame would burn for the rest of the event -- it wouldn't ignite! It took him three or four tries to light the sucker (it helps if the stagehands put the gas on, y'know...).

From the sublime to the ridiculous... I hear one of today's runners has actually been burnt while carrying the torch... Life imitating art, I dare say -- that was a plot element in an All Saints episode not too long ago, I seem to recall... hmmm...
