Subject: Review: Remix Heaven

You may have noticed that a number of recent dance music hits have been reusing older tunes to a greater extent than usual. Remix Heaven is a two-disc set which contains most if not all the current crop of those hits. They range from dance-style cover versions such as DJ Sammy's rendition of Heaven, to the more familiar dance music style of reusing old tunes, full-on Beats that use little more than a melody or a few lines of the old tune's lyrics -- case in point: Scooter's Ramp! (The Logical Song).

The plentiful crop of INXS covers are represented in the collection as well, with a version of Tall Paul's Precious Hearts. Other Aussie rock tunes that have had the remix treatment recent and are on this album are Blizzard Brothers' Thunderstruck and DJ Mind X's Down Under.

If you listen closely, you can hear a few instances of the European singers having trouble with the English-language lyrics. The most obvious of these is in Groove Coverage's rendition of the Mike Oldfield classic Moonlight Shadow -- "Four a.m. in the morning" becoming "Fouer am in...", an understandable error but still surprising that it wasn't picked-up at the recording.

That said, the fact you can spot these sorts of things also means you can hear the lyrics properly to begin with -- which wasn't always possible on the original tunes, as I'm sure many would attest.

The other surprise is the inclusion of Snap's new version of their own Rhythm is a Dancer and Young MC's new version of his own Bust a Move.

For those who like dance music and 80s hits, and who don't object to the two being put together.
