This was to Chronogram, whom PassionPlace has a long-standing history with. We were one of their first advertisers when they first started out 10 years ago, at the same time PassionPlace came around. They were young - and passionate about their work, and thereby have become one of the region's hottest and most prolific arts/culture magazines (yeah!) We're looking for them to conduct a full feature article on our production and our company for their May issue (it's a monthly publication for those who are not familiar with this mag) Let's keep our fingers crossed! Meanwhile - this release can serve as a general informational piece for anyone needing to forward info onto other potential media/fundraisers.
Okay, dokey...ciao, for now... - Sarah

Brian, we're hoping to entice you to reintroduce PassionPlace back "onto the scene" for your readers to enjoy the history and resurgence of one of the Hudson Valley's hottest and boldest production companies for your May issue. First, the press release details, and should you find yourselves interested, please give me a call to discuss a more in-depth perspective on what we're doing, and why...
**********PRESS RELEASE*************
PassionPlace Productions, Inc. presents Aqiyl Thomas' spoken word poetry book 1975:The Underground Epic in an integrated arts format, live for the stage. PassionPlace is producing this performance on a tri-city tour, starting in Woodstock at the Bearsville Theatre, Woodstock, NY, on May 10th & 11th; continuing onto NYC on May 24th, and finally in Buffalo, NY at the TOY (Theatre of Youth) Theatre on June 7th and 8th, 2002.
For the Woodstock performance, a Friday matinee show, May 10th, is available for all schools or organizations who wish to purchase block reservations. There will also be a Friday evening performance on May 10th, and a Saturday evening performance on May 11th.
PassionPlace has been a not-for-profit theatre company based in the Hudson Valley since 1992, dedicated to producing great new works by great American writers, and for producing bold art thru bold performances.
PassionPlace has gained acclaim and accolades from all the area newspapers, won awards for Best Production, Best Actress and Best Actor, has produced and directed works for the Hudson Valley Film Festival and The Woodstock Film Festival, and have worked directly with such award winning playwrights as David Rabe and Frank D. Gilroy. PassionPlace has integrated it's local artists on projects with such established actors as Charles Durning, Dennis Farina, Dominic Chianese (both Jr. & Sr.), Christopher Noth, Dan Lauria, and others.
Having produced over 30 full length shows over the past ten years, PassionPlace has moved onto a multi-media, integrated arts format, involved in collaborative efforts by artists of various genres, including theatre, spoken word, live music, live dance, film imagery and fine arts.
1975:The Underground Epic will be a live performance of Aqiyl Thomas' spoken word poetry book incorporating all of these art forms, live for the stage, and presented to the audience in a dynamic, positive and universal (non-separatist) way.
PassionPlace's vision is to get Others' Visions Out There...and Aqiyl's vision, encompassing such elements as Love, Birth, Spirituality and Consciousness, will be brought to the forefront with a fervor!
Elijah Vanaver, of the Vanaver Dance Company, is Choreographer; Eric Crittenden of The Waz is Music Director, employing the wonderful talents of both Hudson Valley (Dean Jones, Irey Newkirk, Julie Novak and others) & Buffalo musicians; Jeff Garbacz of garbaz.com is the Director of Photography (film imagery), employing the talents of both established and budding Hudson Valley filmographers; and Sarah Chianese, of PassionPlace, will direct the production. Aqiyl Thomas, Shawna and Yohannes Shariff Smith, all from Atlanta, GA, will be joining as the actors/spoken word artists.
A few excerpts from a review of Aqiyl's book by Michael D. Johnson:
"Few of us could ever ponder the idea that poetry would be so fresh, raw, dynamic, while at the same time giving us a tangible message to hold onto. The Underground Epic by Aqiyl Thomas does all this and much, much more. This collection of urban, dialectical poetry comes attached with real-life issues that everyone should read and pay attention to. I highly encourage all to get this work and read for yourselves the extreme value this book brings to humankind.
...I highly recommend this work to anyone and everyone. If you want to understand the mind of a young, modern, progressive African-American male, get the book. If you want to understand the ills that plague our society, get the book. If you want to get a taste of history that is not taught in today’s schools, get the book. Finally, if you want to be enlightened and energized, and thoroughly entertained, get the book."
Tickets are available by calling PassionPlace Productions at 914-388-4690. Block reservations for schools, organizations are also available at a discounted rate.
Anyone wishing to be part of the PassionPlace Team, or who are interested in assisting in funding this performance, as well as the rest of the 2002-2003 season, please feel free to contact PassionPlace at (914)388-4690, or by e-mail at passionplaceproductions@hotmail.com
