I am sorry it has taken so long for me to get back to you. I am currently doing an internship at the Red Cross, which needed my attention because the event we are hosting is coming up.

Currently enrolled in what school? Thompson School of Applied Science at the University of New Hampshire
What year are you? Freshman
When do you expect to graduate? In 2003, but I plan to continue my education at another school.

What do you want to do after school? I wish there was a simple answer to this question. I know I want to be involved with educating or helping the community. This might be in the form of being a teacher, psychologist, working in a non-profit, or being a dance teacher. I am still not sure. I have too many interests right now to decide on one.
What department in your school is accepting internship credits, to help determine which internship area to place you in? My major requires that you receive volunteer/work experience. They do not count it as a credit only to save students money but it is a graduation requirement. However, they can count it as an independent study, which I would register for in the fall semester. I think the work should encompass my program of study. Which hopefully you were able to view on the web site, if not I am sure my professor will send a brochure with her recommendation.
What are your interests, in relation to our company?
Passionplace interests me for many reasons. One I love New Paltz, so your geographical location appealed to me. I use to dance competitively and since I moved to New Hampshire (aprox. 5 years ago) I have not devoted any significant amount of time into dancing. Dancing is still really important to me and I slowly want to integrate it back into my life. I also like the idea that you are open-minded when it comes to art and all the different art forms. It is great that you look at how art affects the community. I was interested in therapeutic dance, and I look at that as art helping others. Also, working with a diverse group was a priority for me. It seemed that Passionplace has a lot of different opportunities, all of them sounding of interest and within my capability. It seems that an internship could be tailored in regards to the person’s interests and abilities. Passionplace seemed to be flexible and fun. I also liked the organization’s mission, vision, and goals
Do you have special skills? I do have clerical experience and some knowledge of computers. I have taken a graphical design/telecommunications class, however I do not consider it an area of expertise for me. I am currently involved in an internship at the Red Cross, where I am helping to host the 2nd Annual CPR Marathon. Some of my responsibilities have been writing press releases, writing public service announcements, creating flyers, working with the media, finding volunteers, supervising volunteers, writing letters, interviewing, and other such things. So I am currently working on those skills. I have been involved with numerous events and the event planning process, which is another interest of mine. Next month, I am planning on taking a grant-writing workshop as well as a human resources workshop, so I should be more qualified in those two areas. I do have twelve years of experience in dance, so if there is a way I could be involved with dance that would be great but not necessary.

Do you have any relatives/friends in the Hudson Valley, NY area that you can stay with? No, I don’t. However, I was thinking that maybe I could see about living with other interns. If that isn’t a possibility maybe I could stay on a college campus, and take one class. One college I was looking around in the area is SUNY, New Paltz. Do you have any other suggestions?
If not, is your school capable of paying for your living accommodations? No, they aren’t. However, if I stay on a college campus my financial aid will cover some of it. Is this internship paid? While looking over the internship on the search engine, it said it was, but I am just checking because that will also help with living expenses.
Will you be conducting distance learning for other credit-based classes while interning with us? I have to look into this.
Write a brief explanation of why you want to intern with us.
I would love to work with an organization like Passionplace. I think this organization could offer me opportunity, experience, and a supportive learning environment. I think this internship would be very rewarding for me because I will be working with a company that has similar goals and aspirations as myself. I believe in your cause and think art is often overlooked, so it is wonderful that an organization has taken the time to really appreciate it. I also think I could offer this organization skills a non-profit needs.
Please provide at least three (3) references (no family - unless you worked for them, and please, no best friends.) Preferably, use teachers/supervisors or others you have worked for or have learned extensively from. I have inquired about references to teachers and advisors. Unfortunately, spring break might delay them getting there. They also said it would be helpful if they have more of an idea of what my internship would look like. Hopefully, the information I have given you might help with clarification.
Can you come to the Hudson Valley, NY area (near Woodstock, NY) for an interview? Yes, I can! After March 23rd, I am free on the weekends and Fridays.
