It was decided to ask members from different areas to form sub-committees by the OCRDA committee some time ago and it worked for a short while and then fell apart due to lack of support for various reasons, work being the main one!
The spokesperson was then invited in turn to attend the next committee meeting to voice the result of their meeting.
We had input from both Dave Wilcock and Brian Peedell to name two but alas people move on with their own lives and it is not always possible to give of your time.
Anyway just to let you know that it has been tried before.
There has always been an open invitation for one or two members to apply to attend a committee meeting, so that other input and insight into how the committee functions can be observed and various members have attended in the past. If you wish to come along to a meeting and discuss your ideas further then put your intention to attend in writing to the club secretary for the first meeting of next year.
Going back to people getting involved in organising their local events, well I personally think this is a great idea and I must say that for me this year the Swansea event was superb. It had all the necessary criteria to make the event a huge success, all credit to yourself, Mary, Tina, and Mark for making it happen. Unfortunately not everyone has either the time or drive etc that you have and also some places which people live are not suitable to OCR racing for one reason or another. You can appreciate that alot of things have to be in place before an event can take place. People like Rob McCarthy, Eric Tuck, etc have been putting on OCR events for years and they will tell you that it hard work to get them to fruition.
On a financial level, OCR needs to make a profit from it's club events so as to keep alive, so just covering the costs of an individual event will not keep OCR afloat, excess money is needed to have a buffer to carry on to the start of the next season. This is why our club events are so important to us as we have not got a major sport sponsor to cover ant other expenses over above the event expenditure. I know that certain members within the club are working on ideas etc from last year to try and rectify any shortfalls in certain areas but it all takes time which has to be fitted in between life and work etc.
