Splendor in the Pothos

late evening
leaves join together
from two separate pothos
hanging from the ceiling

a few inches lower
hangs the small one
rootings
as i recall
that we planted
months ago

it seems to look up at the lovers
as they hold hands
in the dim light
of our livingroom

in the corner
the mother of them all
her lovers and all offspring
twine their way around her

those who have managed it
spread their wings wide at the ceiling

now mcgee the cat sits
on the corner of the table
listening to the pen you bought today
as it scratches its forty-nine cents worth
through this poem of pothos
and what really is just
another love story
