 I live in rural America,
my personal exodus
from the hustle and bustle,
congested traffic,
honking horns,
and thumping car stereos.

A dream come true,
surrounded by nature
and all her splendors.
Peace and serenity
my sole solitude.

Thought I’d made that
vaunted celebratory escape,
relatively unscathed
but now there’s a mailbox
on a country gravel road
bearing my lettered name.
One I now view
with unexpected caution.
Fact is,
I didn't get away.
