The candle wax melting upon the floor,
late at night I hear the creaking of the door.
It's no exaggeration that I have a fear,
that an unwelcome intruder is very near.
Knowledge is power, that's what they say,
I sure hope that truth is with me this day.
I'm afraid of my own Nightmare On Elm Street,
should I remain brave, or admit defeat?
Bravery is something you can't imitate,
no way will I simply laugh as I wait.
There are frequently asked questions about living here,
others before me have died of their fear.
An amulet on a garlic necklace around my neck,
guess it can't hurt, so what the heck.
There's tale of a velvet lined casket in the cellar below,
somewhere that I've never had the courage to go.
I hear footsteps in the dark closing in on me,
I look and I look, but nothing I see.
Fearing desparately for my own life,
in my one hand I hold a butcher knife.
Don't know whether I should stay hidden or run,
then I think what if the intruder has a gun?
From the fire place, maybe I'll grab a piece of firewood.
a blow to his head would probably do some good.
Somehow I will make it out of here with my life,
and be able to resume a life without this strife.
I can feel his presence behind, and I swing that log,
but stop immediately, the intruder's just a puppy dog.
