Morning by the Shore

Gray silent mists, cool morning cloud
Damp empty sands, wiped clean by evening tide.
We walk, lost in a wavering shroud,
Across a blank slate, arm in arm, side by side.

With muffled roar the waves crash down,
Rush hissing up the shifting sand.
Mute our entwined footprints drown,
Scoured out by ocean's mighty hand.

High above the dreary ceiling
Hungry seagulls wheel and cry.
They bring an empty, lonely feeling.
We hold each other closer and you sigh.

Slow the morning sun burns through,
Bone chilling night-time haze.
Dark skies turn to sapphire blue,
Wrapped up in sparkling solar rays.

Laughing rainbow wave crests
Surge inland flecked with foam.
Walk refreshed from evening�s rest,
We turn back and wander home.
