LATE NIGHT VISITORS
Late one day and early one night,
I awoke to find a frightening sight.
In the darkness, near the foot of my bed--
By the window, there danced the dead!
Flames were licking at teh frightened ground-
After this was witnessed, it left without sound.
When I tried to cowardly hide,
I met face-to-face with my demonic guide.
He reached for my hand with a touch that was fire
and confessed to me I had lived life in desire.
"Come with me..." he laughed and said,
"You are expected in the Land of the Dead!"
When I arrived, I could smell the sweat
of a million souls bound in regret.
I felt the fear and fire of the Devil's hands
and watched as his slaves
fulfilled an eternity of endless commands.
Said I, "What ust I do to deny this fate;
never to go beyond Hell's fiery gate?"
Said the Devil, "Just wait, only grand time will tell
if you will live forever... or die in my Hell.
This is my land; my home, just wait and see,
you may live in peace, or live my Eternity."
The Devil laughed in a billowing roar
and I felt fear like never before.
His soulless slaves ran to my feet-
dropped, and told me to retreat.
"This is all just a dream!" I said,
"You are not real and I am not dead."
With that, the prison grew hotter and hotter
and the slaves tossed me into the fiery water.
When I awoke on a whole, new day,
this terrible vision hadn't gone away.
Challenging the truth of Eternity
and daring my foolish memory,
I grabbed the covers and as they overturned...
Upon my legs were terrible burns!
And upon my arm written by bloody pen
was a simple message... "I see you again..."

This was written when I was in high school. We were assigned to write what we thought Hell was.
