These are the reasons offered as to why Calihan could not be used as a spot to watch Saturday's TV game: The building is not generally open at that time, and it would it involve paying overtime to the facility manager to come to the arena for several hours on a Saturday night. There are safety considerations: you would have to have someone man the door and make sure that people are not wandering around the building, so you would need additional security personnel. There were probably temperature control/cost issues as the thermostat in an otherwise empty large arena would have to be cranked up in the mid-winter cold. There were practical considerations: how many people would go to the inner city to watch a game that ran past 1:00 p.m. when the contest could easily be viewed at home, a sports bar or nearby pub? (Probably none considering the half-foot of snow and 40 MPH blizzard winds that were swirling around the Detroit metro area at about that time.)

Before anyone fires off a "typical cheap Brad" response, can you imagine the AD at U-M or MSU opening up their fieldhouse so a small group of fans could watch the game together on the tube?

Not to knock the intent of some loyal and spirited fans, but the costs wouldn't seem to justify the expenses.
