Subject: Was Bracket Busters a success???

I watched portions of several Bracket Buster games yesterday (Creighton, UWM, UIC, Kent St., and Gonzaga). I don't think the concept is perfect, however I really enjoyed the highly competitive match-ups (with UIC as the exception).

I thought many of the games had a greate, conference tournament-like atmosphere.

Tough lost by UWM after coming back from 16 down in the second half.

UIC looked to have a poor crowd which is too bad because Creighton, So. Ill., Kent and Gozaga looked sold-out.

I felt that ESPN did a really nice job promoting the games. It seems like for the past three weeks ALL the Bracket Buster games were included in the Bottom Line "scores" on ESPN and ESPN2.

I read that in the ESPN pamphlet which I picked up in the Titan Club that there will be a 2004 Bracket Busters. However, the format may change or be altered. One of the Commissioners was quoted as mentioning some type of "wild-card sites". He also said that the founding leagues which include the MAC (I can't remember all of them) but not the Horizon were guaranteed to have representation.

MAC went 0-4
Horizon 2-1
Missouri Valley 4-0

Overall, I think it is good concept - certainly better than nothing, which is what we had. I know that our draw was not ideal (flying to the West Coast) but we overcame it. I hope we are invited to participate again next year.
I think it is good publicity and helps us schedule stronger teams.
