Schilling Relieved as WSU Coach

Ed Schilling, Wright State University men's head basketball coach for
the last six seasons, has been relieved from that position effective
immediately, WSU Athletics Director Dr. Michael Cusack announced today.

"It is with a great deal of sadness that we have decided to make a
change in our basketball program," Cusack said today. "Coach Schilling
has brought many positive aspects to our program, but we do not feel it
has developed to where we had hoped."

Wright State will honor Schilling's contract, which runs through June
30, 2006. Private revenue will be used in fulfilling the requirements
of the contract, which is to be paid on a monthly basis.

"While we are disappointed in the progress of the program, we have
developed an appreciation of Ed's integrity, work ethic and values,"
Cusack said. "We wish only for the best for him and his family."

Schilling posted a 75-93 record since joining the University in 1997.
The Indiana native had memorable upsets such as Michigan State in 1999
and Butler last year. His highest win total was 18 in 2000-01 and the
Raiders won nine league games last year.

His record at home was 59-27 while his road record was 14-59 and 2-7 at
neutral sites. His most memorable conference tournament win came in
1998 when the Raiders upset UIC 74-73 in Green Bay, WI. UIC went onto
receive an NCAA Tournament bid that year.

According to Cusack, a small advisory group will be formed immediately
to assist in the selection of a new coach.
