The process your're referring to, i.e. making two drives appear as 1 large drive, is called spanning. And it is possible with a RAID controller such as a FastTrak 100TX4, however, most RAID controllers integrated into motherboards are based on a "Lite" or limited bios, and only support either striping or mirroring modes. Perhaps it may be possible with a modded motherboard bios -- not sure on that one. However it is a process that I would not recommend. It would require reformatting both drives in order for them both to function properly together. Also, bear in mind that if one drive fails, you run the risk of losing data from both drives. My recommendation would be to buy a larger hard drive and use a program like PartitionMagic to clone your system drive to the new drive, and viola -- you have more free space on a single drive and a working operating system. ---just my 2 cents [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
