There could never be anything disgusting about Kat, not in Paige's eyes. All he felt when he looked at her was pain. Most of that was the pain of knowing that this had happened to her by his lack of action. Had he done more, had he come back sooner, had he looked harder... She wouldn't be in this condition, wouldn't be in the situation she had been in that alley. No matter how someone might tell him he had nothing to do with any of this, he knew, it was all his fault in some way or another. And that look in her eyes, the look of a pained and tormented girl, simply made that pain worse.
He hadn't expected to see that sort of emotion in her, hadn't expected to see her so very raw. He was waiting for her to pull the shutter down, to block him out and try to push him away. Truely the last thing he expected was for her to suddenly scoot right up and all but crawl up onto his lap! Hell, the simple unexpectedness of the action was enough to nearly knock him on his ass, then she could have actually gotten onto his lap. Instead, he grabbed into the counter with one hand, while the other wrapped around Kat automatically. His gaze dropped to the top of her wet head, unsure exactly what had brought on this sudden change in the rage queen.
Shifting, now that he had their combined mass -slight as her contribution was- centered on the balls of his feet, he pulled her tight against his chest and tucked her head under his chin. Something inside her had finally broken free, had finally given in to the emotion of the evening. He hated to see her cry, but he knew there was nothing else to be done to help her at this point. She needed to purge the night from herself, purge the pain and the anger in the only way that truly cleansed the body. Though, when she started mumbling about being cold and tired and scared, he realized this wasn't going to be quick cry. This was going to take a few minutes, and his feet where already starting to complain about the odd position they currently found themselves in.
So, rather than make a fuss about trying to get her up so he could get up, he simply shifted his weight, pulling back a bit as he did so. He wrapped her up in his arms, trying as best he could to keep the towel around her, and simply hoisted her up as he stood. If she was cold, sitting on the tile floor wasn't going to help her any. So he carried her out to the main part of the room and sat them both down on the corner of the bed. Reaching back, he gave the comforter a yank and pulled it around the both of them, as if he had the biggest, thincked cape in all the land. "As long as you need, Kitten" He wasn't going anywhere this time, not unless she could tell him to go when her temper was down, like he should have insisted on before.
