The admittance that he had tried to end himself did not shock her, if the shoe had been on her foot instead she would have done the same thing. The fact that he still stood before her caused an internal warning bell to go off, a reminder that even as her partner and friend, he was also something that if she was wise she’d respect it’s prowess. Which she did, though fear was not possible, as long as this beast remained remotely in the form of Erich, she could not despise him fully and never would her blade or hand rise in a means to end him unless by direct order from him. Question was if the time came and the order was given, could she follow through? Perhaps this best a question left unanswered for now.
Their moments of surprising one another had been few and far between when partners, yet here he was for the third time catching her off guard, causing her senses to scream with familiarity and warning at the exact same moment. Her hand felt chilled and yet her nerves felt afire. While her eyes and face betrayed nothing of his effect on her, her heart did. A singular flip-flop, an instinctual reaction that once controlled panned out and steady so one could almost doubt it ever happened, yet it had. Even now, even after ten years apart, he affected her; perhaps he always would. ”Вы всегда будете Эрихом Малковоском ко мне.” The words spoken slowly and with little emotion, a sure sign that she had clamped down any flare ups his touch had produced and just like that he let go. Releasing her and the brief enchantment he had possessed.
She did not speak of how their country had wronged them, knowing that it would forever leave both with a bitter taste on tongue and an anger that could not be soothed by alcohol alone. If she knew their country at all they had sent people to follow her, but they would fail. There was only one who knew her steps as well as she and he stood before her now. The request, for that is what it was, stood unanswered for sometime. Many would think he was to say no, to ignore the notion and push her aside and many more would fidget while waiting; she did neither. Hand held out and eyes staring she waited as he wrestled with the idea. She would continue with or without him, but the truth was as he were now she could find out things never possible before and if he could not she was sure the blonde at the bar could do it for him with the correct persuasion.
”For days gone and glory forgotten.” The words spoken with an almost bittersweet tone as she felt her lip twitch at his mention of terminating the mission should things go sour between them, always the hero even in death. ”I have worked alone these past nine years, I will do so again if it is asked of me.” A promise that he could send her away and she’d continue alone, his choice was to work with her or not, but even with the beast she counted herself on the winning side as long as he stood beside her. ”You have far more control of yourself than you give credit comrade. I have only ever seen one soul eater able to stop once the act has begun, you are the second.” She did not mention her own soul had nearly perished that night, that only the quick thinking on her part had saved herself and stunned the beast long enough to pause the act before she struck. It had said thank you with its final breath, before a swirling stream of smoke it had become.
The idea of having to do that to Erich flickered in the depths of her mind before pushed aside as flesh meet flesh in one of the most ancient human actions. A handshake. ”I am staying at de old apartments in town.” Her she paused and looked directly at the woman who was still pretending to ignore them at the bar. ”Go do whatever it is you must, I will meet with you at 0900 tomorrow.” Shaking his hand she gave him the briefest of smiles then laying down a twenty on the table she slipped her hands in her pockets and was out the door without another word.

It's a devil's disguise
Angel in black
I don't know if I want you back
You're the cool nights of the desert
And the hot kisses of the sun
Why is it that I don't believe you
When you say I'm the only one
I know I'm the lonely one
It's a devil's disguise
Angel in black
And I recognize the shadows from your past
It's a devil's disguise
Angel in black
