For the smell of fear tonight
Wakes an ancient lust that will not be denied...
You're mine

There was little that could be said to console the male when it came to the beast he had become-self loathing had consumed him long ago. Her question actually caused a smirk to break the stony exterior of his features, and while it was a wry, rueful one...it seemed to melt the ice that was so Erich. Outward emotion was a rare thing on the blond male, but it did wonders for the handsomeness of his features. "In every way we was taught, I tried. A stake to the heart by my own hand did naught." He shook his head slowly, a dismal look in those icy orbs. "Death be beyond my grasp." He had wondered since if it was due to the fact that there was something different in him...something that was not fully vampire. Until he could figure out just what that difference was, however--he had a feeling death would elude him.
Her words of who he was....who he remained...made him scoff. "The dead, they are nameless." And with that, he took a risk, capturing her hand with his own ice cold one. With force, he yanked the collar of his shirt down just enough to press her hand to the icy flesh of his chest. His skin all but burned underneth her warmth, a pain he felt and reveled in. "There be no beat. There be no life. No, Erich Malcovosk? He died, ten years ago." With that, he released her, very aware that if more physical contact should be attempted int he moment, that a battle would occur. He did not fear for himself--for he wished eternal peace...but he did not want it by risk of hurting his partner in any way.
"Itsovk, insolent fool! I hope they now see the error of their ways." He'd always bristled at the mention of Itsov, so would have told anyone back in the day that he would be Erich's replacement. A laughable matter, really. "Our motherland has failed us both. Who would have known our services would be met with such a lack of honor." A low, angered growl formed deep in the barrel of his chest as he thought of it.
He considered her words for a long, drawn moment, his intense gaze locked with hers. He did not doubt her abilities, not in the slightest. She'd been his partner for too long for that--he'd seen her at her best, knew that she was formindable to anything that stood in her way. The question was simply, did he trust himself to put her at risk? Before, the risk had been from the outside...but now, she'd be facing not just the monsters from outside. She'd be partnering with one. "One final mission, then, partner?" He said finally when it seemed he wouldn't respond. "Bear in mind this thing, for it is importnant: if the beast becomes too much, the mission is terminated. I shall naught allow your death for this." He was deadly serious, there was no doubt of that. "As for my death, the world would still turn. I am of little use to it now, just a predator. Make no mistake, I have little faith in my ability to perish. Yet if there is a chance...I will fully take it." He didn't even care to go back to humanity--didn't feel that he deserved a breath of life when he'd stolen so many others.
As she extended her hand, his pale gaze lowered to survey it. He'd taken the risk of touching her once...could he again? He surveyed the beast...noted it was quiet for now...and slowly extended his calloused digits to claim hers. A shake given, a pact drawn. "One more. For...old times sake, so they say."
