He nodded at her request, leaning forward to flag the bartender down. Had he known she was recovering, there would have been no way in hell he would have placed her order. But he was ignorant to that fact due to the years, so he placed it, along with a jack and coke for himself. He put the money down for the drinks when they were delivered, then lifted his glass for a long, much needed swig.
He was on the edge, unnerved by the fact that everything had happened so fast. He wasn't a man who enjoyed being out of his element, and that was the position he was in currently. Once this place had been his safe haven...now, it seemed to be suffocating him with memories of better years gone by.
When his cigarette was near the filter, he crushed it in the ashtray before him. He turned to her, propping an elbow on the bar as his near navy assessed her. It seemed there was a chasm between them, so wide and so deep that he didn't know how to even begin reaching her. "They're back, you know. Tumbler, Sphinx, Freb, Toby, Stan...they're back." Best to warn her, if prying eyes had a chance of making more trouble in her life. "I don't want it to cause you any more problems." His voice was lowered, trying to keep his words from any eavesdropping ears.
