Jo was glad to learn that Darius was going to be all right. She'd had a brief period there where she thought she might end up losing him. She couldn't even imagine how awful that would have been.
She helped him back to the table after Foran had taken care of his wounds. He was still having some trouble walking on that leg, and it was no wonder. For a while she thought he might pass out from blood loss.
They listened to what the prisoners had to say, but most of it meant little to her since she didn't know the people in question. She did feel sorry for Carmenta and her daughter, who were pretty much innocent in this. She was quite relieved to hear Darius suggest they stay here for their own safety.
Darius then turned to her, whispering, “I just wanted to thank you for not interfering in the fight. I know you didn’t like it, but it was something I had to do. I hope you understand.”
When he squeezed her hand she smiled, squeezing back. "Of course I do. Sometimes we have to take care of things ourselves in order to put the past behind us."
She was trying to think of a way to ask him to stay with her again tonight, thinking it would be a lovely habit to keep, when he smiled and complimented her on her use of her wand and dagger. “For a minute there I thought you had been injured, and was glad when I found out your weren’t. Sometimes I think you take too many unnecessary risks. Although I would have preferred you to stay here, I’m glad you came along.”
Jo smiled. "Some day you'll have taught me so well that I can fight by your side without you worrying so much."
She looked up as Dalo and Annie left to somehow communicate with Erlic, who she gathered was in Neromba now (she really had no idea where that was, but it sounded far away and exotic to her and she knew Carloz came from there).
She turned to Darius, kissing him softly. "I think maybe you should stay in my room again tonight... to be sure your injuries are healing properly." She grinned. "I think you may need some TLC after all this, don't you? I may not be a healer, but I have a few healing methods I think I might try on you."
