 I backtracked down the track at a walk. After a few minutes i worked him up to a trot. I posted easily to his strides. We did a lap of the track then i asked him for a canter. He lept into the canter. I balanced over his withers keeping my weight balanced by using my toes and calfs. Then i asked him for a slow gallop. After we had warmed up we headed to the gate. Now the fun started. Everyone stopped what they were doing and many of the riders left the track. I walked him towards the gate. He went up till he was about 6ft from it then he stopped and spun around. He spun so fast that i went flying over his shoulder. I quickly got up and walked back to him and got a leg up from Chris. Then i walked him towards the gate. He went in calmly this time. He seemed to realize that he couldnt get away with things like that. He stood still. A few seconds later the bell sounded and he exploded out of the gate. I balanced over his withers. He blew down the track very fast. His strides were not laboured nor was he going his fastest. But he was still going VERY fast. We were going to breeze 1 mile today. As we came into the second turn i asked for a bit more speed. He sped up and blew down the backstretch. As we came into the final turn i asked him for all he had. He raced the wind down the homestretch. He stretched out his long legs. He dug up the track as he raced along. He was still breathing easily so i tested something. We were about a 1/4 of the way down the stretch so i asked him for more. He gave it. We raced towards the wire. We flew under the wire and it took me 1/2 a mile to pull him up. I stood in my stirrups and calmly pulled him up. Once he was walking i gave him a pat on the neck and then shot my fist in the air and pulled my goggles up. He was still breathing easily as if he could do that again. Everyone watched as we walked back to the barn. "OK Kelsey that was what a work was." "That was a work?" she said in disbelief. "Ya." "But you were going so fast. You should have heard some of the comments i heard." "What did you hear?" "Oh stuff like 'Wow has that horse ever matured' 'IS THAT REALLY A HORSE?'" "Well what did we look like?" "AMAZING! You were a blur i couldnt see you guys i just saw a great big bay blur." "REALLY?" "Ya" "Well lets leave him with one of the grooms and go find out our time?" "Ok" We walked back to the track and went up to Chris and asked him the time. "You mean Mach's time?" "Ya. Why is there a problem." "No there is no problem it is just that he just broke every single record ever knowen in Kentucky." "WHAT!" I said in disbelief. "Ya he did." "OH MY GOD!" "That was an amazing ride Shay." "Well i guess we have something to work towards now." "Ya we have the Triple Crown." piped up Kelsey. "Ya your right we do." "We have a lot of work to do Kelsey so we had better go and get riding the other horses." "OK" We walked up to the barn and got Kelsey on Mystic Goddess...........
