Adoption day, I thought.Today was the day that Alex & I were adopting a 15 y/o girl named Jennie, who was partially deaf.It was 9:00 in the morning, & I was doing barn chores.I looked down at my banr t-shirt & my jeans, I definitly needed to change before I went to the adoption agency.I finished filling Firefly's water bucket & went to find Alex.We were supposed to be at the adoption agency @ 9:30 to pick up Jennie.I found Alex in the barn office, checking the email."You have a piece of hay in your hair," he said, looking up at me.I smiled & said "you do realize its now 9:05, right?" Alex nodded."And its time to get to the adoption agency." he said.Alex got up & we headed up to the house to change.I changed into a black shirt & a clean pair of khaki colored pants.I put on a pair of gold earrings & a necklace with a horse charm on it.After quickly brushing my hair, I was all ready to go.I went downstairs, where Alex was waiting for me, wearing a pair of black jeans & a t-shirt."Ready to go?" he said.I nodded & we headed out to the car."I'll drive," said Alex.I said "ok then." it took us 20 minutes to get to the adoption agency, so we arrived right on time.We walked in & told a lady at the front desk that we were here for Jennie.We had filled out all of the paperwork the day before, so all we had to do was get Jennie.The lady told us "Jennie just has to finish saying goodbye to her friends, & she'll be right out.The lady asked another worker to go get Jennie now.5 minutes later, Jennie appeared."hello," she said shyly."hello Jennie," Alex & I said back.The brown haired girl was carrying a small travel bag."All ready to go?" I asked her.She nodded, & we walked out to the car.As we drove home, Jennie asked us "um...what can I call you, Mr. & Mrs. Smith?" I looked back at her & said "Well, my name is Dana, & this," I said, gesturing at my husband, "is Alex.You can just call us by our first names if its ok with you." Jennie nodded.We pulled into the driveway & Jennie exclaimed "you didn't tell me Timeless Farm would be THIS big!" I smiled & said "it sure is a big place.We have 8 barns, one for the broodmares, one for the mares, one for the geldings, one for the stallions, one for the weanlings, 2 show barns & one for the young horses & the horses in training.We also have quite a few arena's, loads of trails, various cross country courses,& acres of pasture land,along with the house." Jennie just gaped at the farm.Alex parked the car & we got out."Just so you know," I told Jennie, "your going to be living with 6 other people, along with Alex & me.Theres Joey, he' our oldest son, who's 19, then theres Jasmine, who's 18, Jewel, who is 16, Arianna, who is your age, & finally, theres 7 y/o Jonathan & 5 y/o Darci.Don't worry, there's plenty of room in the house." Jennie nodded.We all walked into the house.I showed Jennie where her room was."its not decorated yet, theres just a bed& a little bookcase in there right now, we didn't know how you wanted to decorate your room, so we haven't bought anything yet." Jennie said "thats fine with me." I showed her her new room, it had wood flooring, neutral colored walls, 2 windows, a closet & of course, the bed & bookcase."I'll let you unpack," I told her, & left...

I(Jennie) started putting my clothes away in the closet.The room was nice, & sunny, it was heaven compared to the room I had to share with 3 other girls at the adoption center.I put the few books I owned, & my riding helmet on the bookcase.I took a moment to sit on my bed & think.This is a big place, I thought, her nam is Dana Smith, its just a coincidence she has the same mane as a famous rider, right? Boy, this place is so big, you could just get lost in the stables.Wonder what Dana's kids are like? She didn't say whether they rode or not, but the probably do if they grew up on a horse farm as big as this.My eyes felt heavy, before I knew it, I was asleep.I woke up, a few hours later, and I got up from the bed.I walked out of my room.I looked around for Dana, but she wasn't there.I noticed a note taped to my door, it said,
Jennie,
One of the broodmares is having a foal down in the broodmare barn, sorry I had to go so quickly, hope you had a good, long nap.Your bathroom is right next to your room, so you can put your bath stuff in there.You can dig around in the fridge if you get hungry.The broodmare barn is the one closest to the house, if you want to find me.feel free to explore the farm, just don't go to far.

I went to my room, & quickly put my bath stuff in my new bathroom, then I dug around in the fridge.I got out an apple, washed it in thr sink, & bit into it.I decided to explore, so I headed outside.I decided not to bother Dana, so I went on to the next barn.Inside, were several horses.I walked over to a horse's stall.The wooden nameplate, which had the name engraved in gold colored metal, said that the horse's show name was Double-Dutch, but that her stable name was Duchess.the pretty light chestnut horse was quietly munching hay in her stall.She looked like a warmblood.I, myself, really like warmbloods, I used to do english & jump 3 foot courses, but then I came to the adoption center Dana had adopted me from, & just did western."Hey there cutie," I cooed to the horse.The pretty mare looked up & came over to the door of her stall.I patted her nose for a little while, then moved on.I walked out of the stable & saw an arena.there was a person on a chestnut horse out there, going over very big jumps.I walked over to watch.The rider was concentrating on the course, & did not notice me.When she finished the course, & brought her horse to a walk, she waved & said "hello," I waved back.The woman was about to jump some more, so I walked on.I passed through another barn, & saw an entrance leading to an indoor arena, I walked over to the arena.The arena was a dressage arena.Another person was on a dark bay horse, the horse was doing a very nice looking extended trot.I walked back to the house, then on second thought, I decided to see how Dana's broodmare was doing.I walked into the barn.several people, including Dana & Alex, were gathered around a stall.I walked over."Hello there Jennie," Dana said, "everyone, I would like you to meet our newly adopted daughter, Jennie.Jennie, these are a few of the barn hands." They all said hello to me & I said hi back.The people introduced themselves to me.There was a tall man named Jacob, who had coal black hair, he was the broodmare barn manager.There was a red-headed woman named April, who said she was a groom & part-time stable hand, & there was another woman, with brown hair, who said she was a groom & was named Molly.I looked at the little foal, who was suckling."Is the foal ok?" I asked.Alex replied "she's perfectly healthy & doing fine." I smiled & said "thats good." The little foal was a chestnut blanket Appaloosa, and was very cute looking."Well," said Dana, "I guess we had better leave these two alone for a while." With that said, Jacob, April & Molly went off to do something, with a wave, & Alex said he wanted to lunge a horse named Fleet Goddess.That left Dana & I.I asked Dana "what are you going to name the foal, & by the way, who are her dam & sire?" Dana said to me "Her dam, is named Candy Apple, this is her second foal, even though she is only 5, she is still in training though, & is learning to jump & also does western.The fillies sire is my Appaloosa stallion, who's name is Dipped in Chocolate.He does western & hunter flat stuff.We haven't picked out a name for the filly yet, though." Dana thought for a second & said "you know what, how would you like to name that little filly?" I smiled & said "really, I could name her?" Dana nodded."Well, I would have to think about it." Dana nodded again."Well tell me if you think up a name for her, oh, & I'm going up to the house to make lunch for everybody, so come up to the house in about 20 minutes & you can meet the rest of the family.I nodded.Hmmm...I thought, what could I name that filly?I walked off, thinking, until I came to some paddocks.The ones nearest to me contained a very pretty bay horse, a beautiful horse, most likely a Friesian, and...The most beautiful black horse I had ever seen in my life.I walked over to the black horse's paddock, almost as if the paddock was pulling me towards it.I tried to get the horses attention by whistling.The horse came galloping over to me."Your a beauty, aren't you boy," I cooed to the horse.I patted his nose.A voice called "You want to be careful of Calypso, he bites sometimes, if he doesn't know you." I whirled around, a blonde haired, teenage girl was standing in the doorway of the stable."Oh, I didn't know," I said."Its ok, by the way, I've never seen you before, are you a new boarder, maybe a new lesson student?" She asked.I told her "well, actually, I guess that now, I live here.A woman named Dana just adopted me today." the girl looked very suprised, she said "Well, then I guess you should know I'm Arianna, I'm one of Dana's daughters.Nice to meet you." I thought for a second & then said "You looked kind of familiar.Oh yeah, you were the one I saw riding that pretty bay horse in the dressage arena!" Arianna nodded & said "yeah, the horse is named You Wish, but she's called Rosie for short, she's my horse." I said "wow, your lucky, she's very beautiful." Arianna smiled & said "thanks.By the way, I think its time for lunch, we had better hurry, or all of the food will be gone & we'll be stuck with P & J sandwiches.We raced back up to the house, where Dana & a few people were already eating.Dana said to me, "Hi there Jennie, I see you've already met Arianna.This is Joey, this is Darci, & thats Jonathan," she said, gesturing to each person in turn.I said hello to all of them.Arianna & I grabbed something to eat from the counter & sat down at the table to eat.Just then, 2 people walked into the kitchen...
