It was a nice summer morning. I was fixing breakfast and the the girls were up stairs taking showers. Brandon was reading me an artical from the Daily Racing Forum. He broke off and glanced down, grinning. I looked over from where I was flipping pancakes and smiled. Our "other" kids had woken up.
Cocoa 
Sunny 
Shadow 
They barked and wagged their tails. Brandon reached down and scratched Shadow behind the ears. Immediatly the other 2 Labradors yelped and whined and pushed Shadow out of the way so they could be petted too. "Get them out of the kitchen!" I laughed. "Let's take them down to the beach today," Brandon said as he trooped into the living room, the herd of dogs following happily. "They haven't been in ages." "After lunch!" I agreed. Cassidy & Melanie came down and we ate breakfast, then went to the barn.
I rode Pride & Goddess for half an hour each, schooling over jumps. Brandon gave Melanie a dressage lesson on Princess. I schooled Star for an hour in dressage and then took Gamble over a 5' course. Cassidy had ridden Southern Gent then hurried over to the Whites' farm to work some of their horses. At about 12:30 we came back to the house, clenaed up & ate lunch. Then we packed the truck for a beach trip. The dogs bounded out of the house and leaped into the back of the truck, their tails going a mile a minute. Laughing, we piled in and drove to the beach.
A slight wind played about. It was warm & sunny. Waves pounded the shore and the white sand was smooth under our feet. Melanie & Cassidy took their surf boards out and Brandon & I played with the Labs, throwing sticks into the ocean and letting them swim around. They would leap into the waves barking, and swim around. After about an hour, we were all a bit pink on our noses and the Labs were exhausted. They walked over to the truck wearily, covered in water & sand. Whenever they wagged thier tails, we all got wet. I bent down and dried Cocoa off with a towl. She licked my face. "Ugh-no, Cocoa-Melanie, you & Cass get Sunny." Brandon dried Shadow.
The 3 friendly, loving Labs were really family dogs, but we each had a favorite. Brandon liked Shadow the best, and Cocoa was my special girl. Mel & Cassidy liked Sunny most. But we loved them all. We loaded up and drove home.
