Pike well-being probably being prime importance, you just don't need to go that big, I think you're probably more likely to throw a bait off or lose it in the water on larger hooks. and more likely to snag. I use 6 and 8's, semi barbless, they're fine. I think I have some 4's somewhere, which never really see the light of day. They don't seem to tear out, cause less damage and are easier to unhook, getting the like back in the water quicker.
