There's been lots and lots of debate about Mulder being in a Church because many feel, if he does follow any particular religion, he's Jewish. But I figure it was just thrown in. I think Howard Gordon commented on it and it was his idea it was just that, an idea that doresn't necessarily mean the way it always is.

I thought it was good to keep tieing in the Samantha story early on but I agree Scully was kind of a crab. She should have been more sensitive to Mulder's feelings. Maybe they wanted to show that it would take while before she got the big picture.
