Okay everybody went for the obvious with Byers and I concur: he gets Suzanne!
Nobody but me went for the obvious with Skinner: he just got his wife (Sharon, from "Avatar") back. The Maggie/Skinner pairing is popular in fanfic, but I just don't see it. However, I like the idea of Skinner with Kimberly (his XF secretary and MP's real-life wife).
I paired Melissa with Pendrell. This one actualy got a *LOT* of positive feedback from people who read my fanfic. Apparently, most people feel they would have been a good match. I think the very fact that she was "a little far out" in her thinking and Pendrell was sweet, shy and serious is the very thing that would make them a good pair: the old "opposites attract" theory. (Really, when you think of it, this is the whole basis of the MSR!) As for the "but he once had a crush on Melissa's sister" thing. . .one of my closest friends is happily married to a man she met while he was dating her sister! This kind of transfer of affection from one sibling to another does happen fairly often.
Langley was the difficult one. When I wrote my fanfic, (prior to "Closure") we were operating under the assumption that Samantha Mulder had lived to adulthood (i.e. the "Samantha" we saw in "Redux II") so I paired her with Langley. My thinking was. . .after living with aliens for 25 years, any human male — even Langley — would seem "normal" to her!! Based on what we now know, I think I would also pair him with a woman from "First Person Shooter" but not the "virtual" one. Phoebe, the girl computer programmer, seemed to have a bit of a crush on him, so she can have him.
I didn't do Jeff Spender, since he only just barely counts as a "good guy". (Let's face it. He was a weasel right up until his last scene, when he admitted that he was out of his depth on the X-Files and that Mulder and Scully would have done a better job with the cases.) However, since he *DID* redeem himself there at the last, I'll offer some suggestions for him. Ellen seems a bit old; I presume she is Scully's age, and Jeff seemed to be seven or eight years younger than Scully. Two who might be good for him are Holly (F.B.I. researcher seen in "Pusher" and "Redux" and still alive as far as I know) or Kelly (Richmond, Virginia police officer from "Soft Light" who was kind of Scully's protege).
If we're going over to the dark side. . .
Yes, of course, Marita and Krycek get each other.
And. . .the two people who committed the triple sins of being evil, physically unattractive and trying to interfere with the MSR can have each other. I speak, of course, of Fowl Thing and Dogsbreath.
I notice we *STILL* haven't found a pairing for poor old Frohike!
