I rode from Cape Cod to the Festival in a 1959 VW van with brother Jim, Jon from Sequim, a buxom blond from Eugene and her St. Bernard. We got to a State Trooper roadblock on the Thruway. Traffic backed up for a mile and no one was getting thru including truckers. We got out and talked 100 people into following us thru the roadblock. Jon faked a uturn then cut right and drove past the cops. Two cars followed us and soon left us in the dust!
We got off the next exit and asked a cop for directions. Coming down the hill into Watkins Glen that Saturday morning traffic came to a complete stop. We got out and left the VW in the travel lane and walked to the concert.
We set up camp in a wooded grove right behind the stage and saw a concert to remember. When leaving on Sunday the VW was moved to the side of the road. We chugged home at the top speed if 52 mph.
