I went with a friend of my brothers in a 1970 VW. He was a cool dude about 4 yrs older than me, I was 16. We got there Thursday night and I remember seeing a State Cop smmoking weed and letting a guy sell bags from the hoodof his patrol car. He made a comment about no one in this far would be out for 4 days. That excited me and scared me some. We bought some "chocolate mesc" and tripped for three days while smoking communal joints, bowls of hash and I got seperated from the dude I went with. I do remember the guy on fire in the sky, wondering if it was real. I remember the lack of water, but that kept no one from being crammed at the stagge. The Band left the stage due to lightning but left us sitting in the rain on the muddy ground with strikes all around us. I saw many things that will never go away, a guy laying on the race track with a "glob" of blood from his head, with a friend keeping people away from helping him telling everyone they were devils. Sat atop a portalet and saw some chick get raped by about a dozen bikers with colors from some local gang. That hurt not being able to help her. Watched a guy smash his face with a broken bottle as he was being carried away on a stretcher.... We stayed in the woods in a tent with some folks we met. I met a great person my age and we beacame friends and soul mates for 36 hrs or so. I recited Firesign Theater "How can You be In Two Places at once when your not anywhere at all" we went through the entire album with many mistakes I'm sure but we didn't care we were two voices in the woods repling to each other. I grew up a lot. Got back to Milfor CT and had to get put in the "Bull-in-the-Ring" (a football drill, I was a frock )(freak and jock mixed)for being there and missing the first day of practice, not knowing the coach was holding the front page up to the team as inspiration about "hippies" going nowhere in their lives. Some "Good""""Friend said I was there and I paid dearly for it. I was watching a NASCAR Race today August 13th 2006 and that inspred me to write this.
If you were there and 16 or 17 and rmember being with a guy for a few days reply. if you were just there and remember some of what i have shared reply and say hey.
Watkins Glen changed my life in many ways.
