well, we bought tickets in new hampshire and headed out the day before. drove hard in the old goat 80+ across new york, picked up a hitch hiker (remember nothing about him) and did not sleep (perhaps) in some small town. no drugs but some poor pot and good hash (did i mention we left from nh?).
timing is everything and by god i swear we parked the goat less than a 1/4 mile from the fence. couldn't find the entrance and decided the open fence was the entrance. my friend kevin insisted on purchasing acid from the first person he saw. i considered this questionable since he was the only one in our little entourage to have never tripped and after all this was 1973 not earlier.
600,000 oh how people love to underestimate such things! early in the morning and no damn place to stand or walk. we carefully tiptoed with our now oversized trucking shoes to a spot where some felt we were infringing on their space. we assumed these may have been natives and not new englanders, so entrenched in the dry humor of irony.
the acid started to make all the colors of the crowd beautiful and then the dead began to play and the notes floated through the air. might as well end with the only thing that is still really important to us as a memory of that beautiful day.
