 Hi Russ, An exeptional site. I entered Sampson on June 13, 1945, graduated at the end of Aug. Went by troop train to Camp Shoemacher in CA. Left San Francisco aboard the USS Admiral Benson on Sept. 29, 1945. We got to Okinawa just after typhoon Louise devastated the island and destroyed many ships. Went aboard the USS YMS 425, anchored in Hiro Wan, Japan, on Nov. 5. After sweeping operations, we left Japan in March, and ended up in Boston where the ship was decommissioned on July 19. I was discharged on July 21.
Looking for any one who was in Battalion G, Co. 573 during June to Aug. 1945. Also anyone who served on the 425.
