I was in Tsingtao (now more officially: Qingdao) during last quarter of 1945 but not in Cub 19. Now and then a sense of nostalgia returns when I think about that city and what it was like then. I have difficulty getting oriented using current maps as to exactly where I was at. We had marine fatigue gear issued to my Navy unit before we left Hawaii and lived in barracks of local naval school which had a small lighthouse. Besides vicinity of St. Michael's Cathedral, I recall visiting nearby park with small sea life museum, "Strand" beach, and Red Cross Center for servicemen. I left Tsingtao as crew member of USS Oak Hill, LSD 7.
