 The spelling of the names on the Sampson database was correct, it was ME mistyping in the response.

Try NARA again. Send in a new request and add the note "any information available" The years from 2002-2009 were not good for the organization due to cuts. They have not increased their staffing but have since adapted. Responses take longer, but hey usually happen eventually. Personal letters probably get ignored as they are over burdened and probably frustrated.

The fire that happened in 1973 mostly got Army records. Some of the material has been recovered from other sources, but most of it is gone.
