My late father, Robert F. Cafazzo from Hartford, Connecticut, was a signal man on the USS Auburn in 1944-45. He rarely talked about his navy days until the last few years of his life. I would always ask questions, but until the end he would say "Not much to tell. " I would love to hear of any stories about the Auburn. I still have his ID braclet that I wear often, when I want him peticularly close. Now that our son is going into the marine corp I would love some stories to pass along. I realize that it has been almost seventy five plus years now, but if the children of the men who served know of any stories I would appreciate hearing about them.
I remember visiting "Uncle Lou & Aunt Phyllis" on Long Island. It seems to me that Lou was my dad's CO, not sure. Then there was Mr.& Mrs. Cavanaugh, I believe from somewhere around the Great Lakes, they were my little sister's Godparents in 1964. There was also Eddie Brown, wife Kitty, from Massachusetts, outside of Boston(? ).
Thank you to all who served with my father and beside him. May God Bless you all and keep you close.
