My father, RM2c Alfred Coghill, served on the USS Catoctin and wrote a manuscript of their Pacific sailing from Shanghai to San Diego from 25 Nov to 12 Dec 1945. He is getting ready to celebrate his 90th birthday and I am trying to gather some Navy memories up for him. He is suffering from vascular dementia, but can still talk about his Navy days if queued. If you have any electronic copies of the crew, I'd appreciate going through them to see if they would have by chance included him in a photo . He was a radio technician, and is still very proud of having served as such since back in those days most African Americans were just used as cooks. I am willing to share his manuscript with anyone interested. It is a very good, short read (12 pages total), and talks about the rough seas, a stowaway dog named "Ching" and a shipmate who called himself "John the Baptist".
