I wonder if you may have any information about this subject?
I lived with a family that had a cousin, Steve Backner that trained at Samson prior to D-Day. He related some stories of landing troops ashore only to see them shot to pieces.
I did not ,notice anything on this website that references this type of training.

Also, while at NAS Sanford, Fl., (1061)I spoke to a sailor that was sent to Boot Camp at Samson. Needless to say, that base was already closed. This man was put in a hotel nearby awaiting the recruiter to come from Horseheads, NY. Only problem was that the recruiter only came on Tuesdays!
