 My dad served on the USS Sarasota (APA-204) in the South Pacific during WWII. He was asssigned to one of the boat groups but don't know which one.
My dad passed away in 1975. He participated in the Invasions of Luzon,PI and Okinawa. Was at Manus Island onboard the Sarasota when the Ammuniton Ship USS Mt Hood blew up in the harbor and also assisted the off loading of the USS Henrico APA-45 when a Japanese suicide twin engine bomber hit the bridge killing the CO, and others on the bridge.
