When you mention that you were in a beachoutfit &that you never served aboard a vessal unless it was as temporary ship'sco., most Ex-Navy guy's look at you and usually say,
"Shore duty-what a sweet deal! Yeah, eating D's, K's, C's& ten inones is great/ Sleeping in foxholes is like camping in the greatoutdoor's.

Do you remember that mud on Okinawa ? and the Typhoon's ?Not to mention being shot at and having those air attacks that never ended.

I spend a few months in San Diego every winter with my youngest son, and I've run into sailor's in small boat's who are training for harbor work oversea's, boarding ship's etc.
They say cross training isbeing done with all rates, so they
can be used for any purpose including as combat infantry.

My Unit was MC17, and we actually were formed as a unit in Hawaii, at Iroquois Point. The name of the school was the
Advanced Base Combat Communication School. What a mouth full, and the Chief in charge was named Turk. We were formed in late Feb.of 44, and picked up our our Army group while on bivaouc on King Kameohe Park, had about a week with them & then we all shipped out together. on a new the Claremont. Send me a msge on my regular E Mail, and we can compare notes.

Steve
