Mark,
I have recently been in touch with Harold Stark about his brother Avon Stark, who served, literally, next to my father in the hospital operating rooms set up on the Berrien after the commencement of the invasions of Iwo and Okinawa. Avon Stark is alive and residing in Missouri. My mother pulled some old pictures out of her closet and we found a group picture of my father and his fellow corpmen standing around one of the operating tables.
Listed on the back of the picture were these names:
Snyder, Stark, Jackson, Spear, "the chief", Standler and "me" (Ed Hamrock).
Harold told me that Avon remembered my father and "thought very highly of him", after 63 years.
