However, when a word is misspelled on several occasions in the exact same way it is only logical to assume that it is more than a mere typo and indeed a spelling error. i don't like looking at misspelled words. they annoy me. when i spell something wrong--whether it be a typo or temporary idiocy--it sucks, and i wouldn't be offended if someone were to correct me. rather, i would appreciate the fact that they took time out of their day to assist both my acquisition of knowledge and the ceaseless quest for spelling greatness. Date Posted: 23:18:38 12/11/02 Wed you know what? i'm just going to prove myself wrong, since i now see what you were talking about. the subject title was also "matress," which does allow the reader to infer that, indeed, st. cloud katie does not know how to spell "mattress." so, with that said, i retract my statement that your memory sucks, anne (and admit that my last post was a sucky, sucky post since it was not based on fact), but i still stand by my original statement that you are not the spelling police. when you correct people's spelling in an online forum such as this, you are the one who's made out to look sucky, since you take a "holier than thou" approach to the situation and, no matter what you say, appear as if you are, in fact, claiming to be infallible when it comes to matters of spelling. and if you truly feel the need to point out misspelled words here, why, may i ask, have you not mentioned that andy misspelled "suckiness" on the main page? if you have actually undertaken a ceaseless quest for spelling greatness, you obviously suck at that as well. Date Posted: 09:50:37 12/12/02 Thu "it sucks that you're acting like i have made some sort of similar claim in the past: i haven't." well, i guess your memory does suck. i refer you to my post entitled, "fraud on the page of things that suck!" where you replied that i did not know how to spell fraudulently when i, obviously, had just spelled the root word correctly in the subject heading. also, if you were on a ceaseless quest for spelling greatness, you would be aware of the basic rules of spelling. any word that ends in "y," when changed to a word ending in "ness," replaces the "y" with an "i." for example, happy - - happiness. the word does not have to be in a dictionary to follow the rules of spelling. it sucks that you fail to realize that.
