Due Respect--case law's R's. The essobee had a shack-up and had children by her. "Case-law" (meaning a "law" created by from the judicial bench) has nothing to do with the absurdity of a faithless spouse enjoying such absofragginglute power over another Human being.
Whether the Democratechism (that nothing remained in Terri Schiavo's brain-case but the so-called "lizard-brain") was true *before* her owner/master suspended rehabilitation and got the feeding-tube pulled the first-time--
--once that was done, the damage you cite began. Xrays taken years later are about as persuasive as would be be photos of the Reichsta-oops-I-mean-Murrah Fedgov BLDG rubble if used by McVeigh's defense to argue all he bombed was rubble. Maybe in some exotic foreign "philosophy" some twit sitting cross-legged and living on handouts proclaims time is an illusion; if something is discovered today it has always been thus. Every child who ever broke something has probably tried to "argue" it was "always" damaged, and (hopefully) has learned most people aren't that gullible.
Terri's parents were not seeking to have Holy Nanny Govt keep their daughter alive at Taxpayers' expense--contrary to Democatechism. The only things keeping her in that temple of death were her owner and his lawyer (a member of the death-house's board of directors). Her parents wanted to take her home. May sound odd, but they did. They wanted to care for her and pay for it themselves, like some archaic, right-wing-extremist "family" would, in the days of yore. Her master forbade it, as he forbade most access to her. It was exactly the behavior of a person with something to hide.
Doctors were about evenly divided on her diagnosis. The Religious Left will undoubtedly continue to wail that any doc who didn't recant and confess to being a right-wing-conspirator must've downloaded his medical degree off the Internet {yawn}. But, docs who actually examined Terri Schiavo were hardly of one mind. And (ONE MORE TIME), you can always pull the feeding-tube and kill someone later, if a thorough examination of the FACTS (all of them; not just the convenient ones) so-indicates. That would have been the right thing to do. That she's dead now will be proclaimed to make it moot--by those hoping shrillness will make it so.
That she's dead now only makes the decision to kill her irreversible. It only makes the decision to treat her already-shacked-up husband as her owner & master, to the exclusion of her parents--irreversible. It only makes the decision to err on the side of death, absent a document--irreversible. Is that such a complicated thing to grasp?
Not THAT long ago a mother who died giving her child the gift of freedom did it for nothing, because a political Party had to demonstrate its utter contempt for the Rule of Law and its adoration for the dictator that mother was fleeing. Elian Gonzales HAD "dry feet" by the time the authorities discovered he'd made it. Reichsmarshal Reno showed the world who she was, ordering the Unholy Saturday Raid to "liberate" that child, and a whole Party showed similarly who THEY were by defending her lawless act. The "Mainstream®" Media showed us who THEY were, in rising to her defense and pretending that raid was upholding the law vice an expression of I-AM-The-Law. Badly as Governor Bush, the VRWC-majority in Congress, and President Bush WANTED to make a similar move to get Terri Schiavo back on hyrdation & nutrition, they didn't conduct any such raid. They'd have found no shortage of people willing to help (outside of that "Majority-Of-Americans" who wanted to keep their jobs at Pravda-on-the-Potomac & Pravda-on-the-Pacific). They'd have found no shortage of Americans who, although calling such a raid illegal, would have called it payback for the Unholy-Saturday Raid. You see, most "right-wingers" would pay-back the Religious Left thus--by preserving a life. Try to get your mind around that concept. Not, perhaps, as gratifying to the liberal mind as starving a woman in FL to punish Tom DeLay & George W. Bush for getting re-elected, but it is our way.
I don't give the least identifiable part of a rat's anatomy whether any or all the death-judges in this case were Republicans/Baptists/NRA-Life-Members or what[BEEP]ing ever. Kindly reflect that a closet gun-grabber by the name of George Herbert Walker Bush, a.k.a. "Bush-41," was all-of-the-above. That makes them embarrassing--not infallible. I also don't give a rat's... whether Michael Schiavo or the Schindlers were Republicans or devout Communists. It may be Democatechism the case was about Party, but it still came down to a process comparable to letting a house burn while debating whether someone willing & able to extinguish it--had any right to do so. THAT perspective is why FLORIDA is a "Persistent Vegetative State" (and who'd want to be in one?) for my future travel plans. NOTHING goes in FL's feeding-tube that I can prevent from going there. Deal with it.
