A quick take on the issue dominating the news FWIW.
The suspects who are subject to the UCMJ were members
of a Military-Police unit. Jurisdictions with limited
budgets like to hire former MPs as cops. Now, as a
rule, not every former MP will be a good cop
"...but that's the way to bet." In the case of
those misfits doing that stuff in the pictures, IMHO
the thought of any one of them in civilian life with a
badge and a gun is chilling.

A Dishonorable Discharge would nearly eliminate that
possibility for each of those creeps. It's that important. And (from a 20-year Enlisted) there is no
way any of them could plead '...just following
orders'
or ignorance. At their level, it would
have been hard to do more damage had they set out to
damage America's credibility and every other
Service-member's odds of making it home standing.
That fairly shouts that it's possible they (or some of
them) meant to do just that. So it would not be an
over-reaction, if a General Court Martial directs that
each of them be dishonorably discharged from the
Service. RKBA! Regards, all.
