Here's the scoop, with help from "pipefest.com" and my Dad......
The Parade will begin on West 43rd, 44th and 45th Streets, on 6th Avenue. The parade will march "smartly north" in blocks between 100-150 people. The parade starts at 2.00pm. Bands will begin forming up at 12:00pm.
TIMETABLE
Please note the following time which must be adhered to by everyone :
12:00 – 1:00
Participants arrive in assembly streets and make their way to allocated block position. Participants to fall in at allocated block position, report to person nominated in charge of block and tune pipes
1:40
Sharp Tuning of pipes ends – minimum noise thereafter
2:00
Sharp March begins
3:30
Approx March ends
ARRIVAL ARRANGEMENTS
Everyone coming to the march should appreciate the difficulties of finding car parking in New York City. It is simply easier to come by public transport. No pipe boxes, drum covers or similar items should be brought as there will be no place to leave them during the march.
There is limited coach parking and no special arrangements can be made.
It will not be possible for coaches to enter or drop off passengers in the assembly streets.
We are Block # 49 on West 45th Street (RED DIVISION) and 6th Avenue (Basically, last - as usual).
West 45th: Red:
7,8, 13, 14, 19, 20, 25, 26, 31, 32, 37, 38, 43,44, 49, 50, 55, 56, 61, 62, 67, 68, 73, 74.
In each of these streets a part will be set aside for the first two bands to form up and to exit by the east end. Bands will march eight abreast. The remaining bands will be held in rough formation until the first two bands have set off on the march, whereupon they will be replaced by the next two bands who will come forward, have a few minutes to adjust dressing and formation, prior to being called upon to join the march. It is thus important that all participants remain alert to instruction from 1340 hours. Those who were in Edinburgh for the year 2000 march will remember that this worked well there.
Plans are moving forward for the after parade party. There are a number of very large venues we are looking into. One idea is to hire one of the piers. These are basically empty hangers that can hold a very large number of guests all indoors. The NYPD Emerald Society use one for their St Patricks Day Party and we would run something along the same lines, with their advice. A few beers, live music, and few pipe bands (this shouldn't be too hard!) - all the atmosphere of a beer tent but not actually in a tent!
