I would like to keep everyone informed on what I think each week's practice should cover. I will try to do this every week, but given this is the first one, I can't gaurantee that I'll be as ambitious in the future....
We have a Parade on Memorial Day and Contest on June 1. This week, I would like to get on pipes to go over band/parade music from 8:00 - 9:00 (including tuning). At 9:00, we will go over the March set for the June 1 contest on CHANTERS and PADS ONLY for 1/2 hour - 45 minutes (depending on progress).
Keep in mind, we are planning to practice this Sunday at 9:00am. At that practice, we will go over the MEDLEY AND MARCH sets on PIPES and DRUMS ONLY. Frank - can you bring directions to the Brentwood Road Armory this Wendesday for Sunday's practice?
Last - but certainly not least - I haven't tuned the entire pipe section on my own since the Montauk Parade. That worked out well because we had been playing for a whole season. At practice, it would go a lot quicker if everyone played their pipes during the week. I will give new reeds to those who need them this Wednesday, but your help during the week will make Wednesday and Sunday practices go much smoother. I would love for everyone to play 2-3 times per week, but at the VERY LEAST, please try to play your pipes for 15 minutes on Tuesday and tune them as best you can. This will help out tremendously.
Snoop's departure will be a significant adjustment for all of us, but I'm hoping you'll all bear with me during this transistion. Things will be done a little differently (and may change week to week, depending on what works), but I think once we establish a patern, we can expect some good results.
Last, Frank is working very hard on getting our students up to speed, but I would like to break them down into groups so that their progress can continue at the proper levels. This may require some people to help with individual students at some times. The contest band will be best served if Frank can be finished with students in time to join us for our contest work from the start.
As always, please let me know if you cannot make it to practice on Wednesday nights, either through this message board or by phone.
I hope these little notes will help establish the proper expectations for Wednesday practices.
