Greetings from the other Washington, Jerry!

Thanks for setting this up. Enjoyed hearing what you had to say tonight and the other night as well. Thanks for your advice on not waiting to get certified before making $$. I made my first $10 for a quickie. I think I'm gonna frame it.

I was wondering if you had any plans to put together a mailing list. If not, I could try to set one up through e-groups or something and maybe act as moderator (just in case any of the E+ writers with heavy pressure and clubbed t-bars start flaming each other) ;)

Deb,
You DID it. GR8. (GR8 is a very big gr8). My first quickie (or as Phyllis Mattingly called it -- thumbnail) was also for $10. I got paid with a $5 bill and 5 ones. One of the ones was printed in Dallas (very appropriate, huh?). That is the one that I framed!

What is your idea for a mailing list? From the roster that Bart gave us, I read all the info into a database. What can we use it for? What are your ideas? Now that we have a message board, what other ideas do you, and everyone else have to assist us?

Thank you most kindly. I'm gonna need a few more tens to pay off my initial investments and that may take some work, but at least its a beginning.

Cool! I'm going to frame my $10 along with my business license which I also got (which cost a bit more than the $10) ;0

I was thinking of a mailing list to everyone interested. We could discuss various topics, analyze samples, learn from each other, share experience, etc and vent frustrations about the various pinheads we encounter who don't "believe" in handwriting or somehow assume this has something to do with palmreading...!

Personally I find the mailing lists very convenient because they come right to my e-mail addy and I answer them along with my other mail... but how does everyone else feel? Some people might not like getting extra e-mails in their already flooded email accounts.

If there is enough interest I'd be willing to check into setting one up, and like I said, I could give the moderator thingy a whirl.

Thanks for the reply!

Thanks from me too Jerry. I'm still perusing your chaiusa website. It looks very interesting.

Nice work Deb! I still haven't taken the plunge and cashed in on this. I need to take another look at my handwriting. I must have something in there that's holding me back.

Message board sounds great too.

Enjoy your week!

Thanks, Jackie. I know what you mean about not taking the plunge. I'm afraid I'm still not 100% plunged... I still feel uncomfortable asking for money. I don't know why. I guess it's because right now the only ones I really offer my services to are friends, co-workers and associates, so it sort of feels awquard. I am hoping the anxiety will go away when I start dealing with "strangers" who answer my ads.

Maybe we just need to concentrate on the benefits our service provides and the value of that. I think we'll grow more confident with experience.

You've been through this Jerry, do you have any advice on the subject?

>>Hi there:

I do handwriting analysis at parties and at a hotel where I am two nights a week. The first party I did I had only been studying his course "How to Read Handwriting in 10 Minutes" and had memorized the traits. I read over 50 people in one 3-hour evening, and everyone raved. I had only been studying this for a couple of weeks! I wasn't an "expert" and still am not, but I was fully confident in the accuracy of the information I had acquired. I saw several things right away and honed in on them.

I think maybe you don't charge because you don't feel you are accurate. Bart's information is totally accurate--I knew it and trusted it. You can be sure you are right in what you say (now how you say it is another matter :-) )

If you have been reading for friends and associates up to now for free, and getting good feedback, then now is the time to stop doing it for free and charge. If you feel uncomfortable charging $10 then charge $5 but CHARGE. People respect the information they receive only if they pay for it. In other words, you must have an even exchange of energy, and money is a damn good way of exchanging the time and effort you have put into learning something.

Declare yourself a HW analyst NOW. If you are asked "what do you do?" say you are a HW analyst. If you are asked, "Can you read my handwriting," say "Sure, I'll give you a quickie for $5.00" (or $10 whichever you feel comfortable with.) Then just say 3-5 things. That's all. Remember, it's a quickie only!

You'll do great in your reading. And who knows in what wonderful direction it may lead you.

Deb & Read thanks for the words of wisdom. Encouragement helps. Read..I'm glad you explained what your idea of a quickie is. I wasn't sure what that looked like. Now that gives me a good idea...share 2-3 things with them.
The way to say it is tough too. I test out the people I work with and friends. I start spewing out what's in the manual, but that doesn't really help them. I need to work on being more eloquent when providing an analysis. I guess that comes with practice.

Yes Read, thanks for your words. I also liked your definition of quickie. I used to spend forever on mine adding in all sorts of details and I wasn't even getting paid! It was good practice, though.

If you're not too sure WHAT to say, start with the information on the GraphoDeck. Bart spent considerable time developing these descriptions for the cards. They are eloquent in their brevity, and state the traits in a way that others can understand and hear (usually).

Then, as you study and learn more traits, think about metaphors that apply for each of the traits you learn.

Curtis and Bart are brilliant here as well, using examples that are both entertaining and enlightening. That's why their program works so easily and so well - first of all, the information is accurate and reproducible and then they model the best way to present the information.

>Hi Eveeryone,
I have really enjoyed this whole experience and hearing each of you on different subjects. I too would like to get over the fear of my effectiveness and in deciding where to start. Thank you, Read, for the definition of a quickie. I try to put too much into it also. EVERYONE REMEMBER to go get your gold name badge that says "Handwriting Expert" so conversations will begin automatically. And have your answer ready for when they want to compare it to palm reading! Besst of luck to everyone, you're in my daily thoughts. Sincerely, Maryann (Illinois)

I strongly suggest that you title yourself "Handwriting Analyst" not "Expert". Expert is consided to be a classification given by the courts after you have testfied a few times. It is DECLARED by the courts.
