I recently rescued a american staffordshire terrier off the street in Chicago. His name is Maxwell and he is an amazing dog. I was very nervous about the breed, so I did as much research as possible. Max has been in my house for 2 months and is great with everyone, including kids! He loves children. Introducing staffordshire terriers to other animals needs to be done in a safe atmosphere that is supervised. Max has slowly learned that agression towards other animals is not accepted! I take him to play with his 75 pound american pitbull friend, Chito, at the park all the time and they run like crazy, exercise is essential. Amstaffs are athletic, confident, good-natured dogs that need to be socialized with people and animals. When I brought Max home he was so scared that he would not come out of his crate for alomost 15 hours. He had his tail between his legs and was crouched towards the ground constantly preparing for a beating. It broke my heart. He didn't know what dog food, treats, bones or love was for that matter. He gives hugs, kisses, wags his tail and even sleeps in bed with my husband and I now, he thinks he is a lap dog! He has never had one accident in our house. He is healthy and has had all of his shots and is determined to be 9-12 months old. If you have the opportunity, time and the love to rescue the pit bull/lab and the american staff do it, no one else will.
Thank You-
