I'm sorry to have to post this here, but I can't post anywhere else! My neighbors have a dog that is probably an American Cocker Spaniel. The dog's name is Maxie and I desperatly want to help this girl. Maxie was a stray the neighbors picked up before they moved here. She has never been in a house, as they keep her outside 24/7. This poor girl has somehow survived about 12 years of freezing winters and scorching summers in New England. The worst thing is that this girl is allowed to roam free, andd will walk right in front of cars. This is a problem since she is both small and black and tan colored. As is the case with a dog like this, she HAS been hit, by a car more than once, and supposedly injured. This girl was just lugged back to the house by the owners and left outside to heal on her own. The dog survived but is still allowed to roam. The other problem is that the dog has been left alone when the owners went on vacation with a day's worth of food and water. That means she goes for at least 5 days without food and water, if they remember to feed her!!! In fact, a few weeks ago, Maxie's owners left a message on our answering machine asking us to feed Maxie while they went away on vacation. We got the message after coming back from our own vacation, exactly SEVEN DAYS LATER!!! So the dog had no food or water for 6 days, how awful!!! This dog is also given practically no shelter, as her doghouse is open at the front and has no soft bedding and is at ground level. Oh, by the way I called the Animal Control Officier to complain and she said that the owners have never gotten their dog licensed for this year. That was on like July 28'th!!! Their dog is also not vaccinated against anything (rabies included). Oh, I also forgot to mention that the dog attacks small dogs. She also went after my grandparents dog who is only slightly bigger than her. Lukily, Susie, my grandparents' dog was not hurt, as she WILL NOT defend herself if attacked by another dog. The last thing you should know is I sent Maxie's owners an anonymous note, stating that if they loved the dog they'd do what was best for her and surrender her to an animal shelter. Sadly, none of this has worked, so now I'm asking for any ideas. If anyone can help please,please reply. P.S. I can not even try to get them to surrender the dog to me, as I CAN NOT foster her and neither can friends or relatives, plus I don't think they'll surrender her to me. Well thats about it.
